Following this weeks Lens-Artist Challenge on WP I was scrolling through some of the challenge posts. One of these was from /ˈsnæp.ʃɒt/. On Keith’s blog (it’s well worth spending some time there) I found a reference to taking pictures with a Game Boy console using a Game Boy Camera.

Photography – Fujifilm XF 80mm F/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro Lens

A year or so ago I invested in a Fujifilm XF80mm F2.8 Macro lens. It’s an expensive lens to buy new, retailing at over £1000 in the UK. I bought mine second hand from MPB for about £600. It was advertised as mint condition and I wasn’t disappointed, it was like new. I buy all my lenses, used, from MPB these days and I would wholeheartedly recommend them.
Continue readingThe Easter Lily Cactus

We’ve had a tiny round cactus plant at home for about five years or so now. I think it probably came home with us as one of a pack of tiny cacti from Ikea. I’ve never really bothered with it and it normally sits, out of the way, on a book shelf, at the back of the kitchen. It’s in a really good warm, light position.

Ann-Christine has set this weeks Lens-Artist Challenge and has asked us to post images related to markets. Her original challenge post can be found here.
Continue readingWalking – Goodrich Castle and the River Wye, Wales

Last weekend we paddled down the river Wye, Monmouthshire, Wales in a canoe (I’ve blogged that here). Whilst we were on the water we saw people walking along the river bank, enjoying the stunning scenery in and around the Wye Valley. We both thought a walk in that area might be a nice thing to do. So, once we were back I started to research walks in the Wye Valley and using the Outdoor Active App I found the walk that we completed today.

Gromit Unleashed 3 came to the streets of Bristol, UK at the end of June and runs through until 31st August 2025. Its the third time the characters, created by Aardman Animation, have popped up on the city streets to help raise money for The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.
Continue readingTravel – Pontneddfechan, Wales, UK

Two weeks ago, with warm weather forecast across the country, we thought it might be nice to take the opportunity to find a last minute get away somewhere here in the UK. Long story short the former Miners cottage in mid Wales, that we stayed in last year, had a last minute cancellation and was being offered for a weeks rental with a good discount. So, on Sunday evening I booked the cottage and by 2.00pm the next day we were back in it.
Continue readingTravel – Richmond Park, London

We were invited to visit and stay with my in-laws who live in Bournemouth, Dorset over the Easter weekend so last Thursday we drove down from Bristol to join them on the south coast. We left the planning for the weekend to David and Donna, in fact the only thing we had to do was to provide a suitable dessert for our meal on that first night!
Continue readingBaking – Sokolatopita, Greek Chocolate Pie

On a recent trip to Cyprus I tried a proper Sokolatopita or Greek Chocolate Pie in a supermarket cafe. It was early in the morning and most of the pie had already been sold. I soon realised why as I tucked in to my portion, it’s an indulgent, delicious treat. Before we left I went back to the cafe counter to get another portion, to take away with us, and it had all gone!
