Photography – Converting Kodachrome film slides

A digital conversion from a Kodachrome slide shot in 1958

I sadly lost my mum on November 1st this year (I lost my dad sixteen years ago). She was 90yrs old and had been diagnosed with a lymphatic cancer. The cancer didn’t help but her death certificate states she died from frailty and old age. She didn’t suffer, she wasn’t on any medication at all, and spent her last few weeks, quite content, in a local care home following a fall at home.

Street Art – ‘Wonder’ by Sophi Odling

The ‘Wonder’ Mural by Sophi Odling

Three weeks ago, whilst we were on a walk about in Bristol, we wandered into the Upfest Street Art shop in Bedminster. We’d been drawn in by a framed print in the shop window. The artwork was called ‘Wonder’ by Australian artist, Sophi Odling. Linda, my wife was particularly drawn to it and after a very brief discussion we bought the framed limited edition print and it’s now hanging proudly on a wall in our lounge.

Photography – Microsoft Co Pilot, Creating Cartoons

It’s funny, how looking around WordPress blogs can take you off in a totally different direction to the one you initially started out on. This happened to me yesterday when I began some holiday research for Rethymno, Crete, Greece.

Photography – Photoshop Actions

Following this weeks Lens-Artist Challenge on WP I was scrolling through some of the challenge posts. One of these was from /ˈsnæp.ʃɒt/. On Keith’s blog (it’s well worth spending some time there) I found a reference to taking pictures with a Game Boy console using a Game Boy Camera.

Photography – Fujifilm XF 80mm F/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro Lens

A year or so ago I invested in a Fujifilm XF80mm F2.8 Macro lens. It’s an expensive lens to buy new, retailing at over £1000 in the UK. I bought mine second hand from MPB for about £600. It was advertised as mint condition and I wasn’t disappointed, it was like new. I buy all my lenses, used, from MPB these days and I would wholeheartedly recommend them.

Street Art – Happy St Patrick’s Day

I’ve no links to Ireland at all. I just thought I’d mark St Patrick’s Day with this sticker image I spotted, on a bridge, in Bristol earlier in the year. The stickers seem to pop up on random lamp posts, bollards or bridges around town. We walked in to central Bristol on Saturday and I found two more. I’ve no idea what they are all about and I can’t find anything on the internet about them. I find them funny though. Here’s a couple more…..

2025 – New Year Stock Image Uploads

A typical stock image I shot this week. The picture looks a bit empty but I try and leave an area for copy space at the top, side or both of the main subject.

It’s been a quiet time, for me, stock wise although the start of year is always a quiet time for my sales. I’m still trying to upload new images regularly. Most of my stock images come through street photography. However, the grey blanket of cloud we’ve had covering the UK for most of February hasn’t been conducive to going out anywhere special with the camera. The light has been useless.

Life in Lockdown – My Guitar Apartment.

Life inside my Taylor acoustic guitar – Who knew!! See below for how I set this up.

Back in March 2020 the covid lockdown hit the UK. I was still working then but we were sent away from the office, with laptops, and told we would be working from home from that point onwards. We were also restricted to only going outdoors for one hour a day (for excersize), we had to stay local and keep away from anyone else. That left me with a problem, what am I going to photograph?

Black Nore Lighthouse at sunset across the Severn Estuary.

Black Nore Lighthouse lies on the Severn Estuary coastline at Portishead, Bristol, UK. The coast path is a short walk from home for us and one of our regular dog walking routes.
