My Wedding Photography Story – Part 11

A detail shot. These images used to work well for a book cover. I’d usually shoot one with a bit more copy space to the left.

Into July 2013 and the wedding of Frank and Tina. We were back at Arnos Court Hotel in Bristol. Unfortunately, as far as outside wedding shots were concerned, it rained pretty much all day. Other than the bad weather though, another lovely wedding day, that ran quite smoothly for me.

My Wedding Photography Story – Part 10

The hotel had a fishing lake in the grounds. It was a surprising venue with some lovely portrait locations. You’d never know that behind the trees in the background of this shot was a really busy dual carriageway taking traffic into, and out of, Bristol.

I shot two further weddings in 2013. I thought we’d been busier than that, although we did have lots of future bookings for 2014. In June I shot Ben and Sarah’s wedding at the Holiday Inn, Filton, Bristol.

My Wedding Photography Story – Part 9

The Groom Mark and his Best Man before the wedding. There was a terrible colour cast running through this image that I just couldn’t remove. Even trying again this week I still couldn’t completely remove it. So it became a B&W image.

Our first wedding of 2013 was in January of that year. The Bride, Nicola, had been a bridesmaid at a wedding I photographed in 2012 and booked me, for her wedding, following that ceremony.

Lens-Artists Challenge #326 – This Made Me Smile

This scene made me smile as this couple walked past me on the beach.

Ok all, this is my first attempt at submitting a few images to the Lens-Artist Challenge. I picked up on this after checking out Leanne Coles blog, after Leanne had been kind enough to like one of my posts. I’m pretty much new to WordPress, let alone blogging, and still struggling a bit with both. However I thought this was a great idea and wanted to take part. I hope I don’t mess it all up.

My Wedding Photography Story – Part 8

Reviewing our first wedding photography year

Having shot our last wedding of 2012 it was time to look back and assess how it had gone and where I wanted to go with my wedding photography. We’d gone into the year with about 50% of the weddings we worked on booked, the other 50% were late or short notice bookings. Going into 2013 I hadn’t advertised anywhere other than the work intranet. I was still getting regular enquiries, via word of mouth or being booked on recommendations by my clients from 2012. That was really nice, and encouraging.

My Wedding Photography Story – Part 6

The one with the Videographers.

October and the wedding of Tom and Sam, my first professional booking although by this time we’d shot ten weddings. Sam had booked a small wedding venue in North Somerset which was part of a carp fishing lake complex. The venue had two barns, at right angles to each other. The main ceremony room was quite well lit with natural light but it was quite narrow with the desks, the registrars were going to use to run the ceremony, very close to the rear and sidewall.

Button hole duty for Lin whilst grabbing guest shots.

So, on into October and the last two weddings of the first year ahead of us. I say us because by now Lin, my wife, had become my permanent assistant at every wedding. I only shot one wedding without her help and found it a lot more difficult. Originally she was just going to help me with equipment and organising but her role became much more than that.

My Wedding Photography Story – Part 3

The one where we went hungry.

Following Chas and Katies wedding my next bookings came a few weeks later. I was then booked for a least one wedding a month, through until November in 2012. April began with Steve and Derek’s Civil Ceremony at Priston Mill near Bath followed by Ricki and Sally’s wedding, the following day, at Coombe Lodge, Blagdon. Both were lovely, wedding specific venues and it was my first experience of having a wedding co-ordinator running the day.
