Ritva has set this weeks challenge – Minimalism in Black & White Photography. You can read Ritva’s original challenge post here. It’s a great theme for a challenge and one of those that makes you think about your own photography. I’ll confess that I never shoot in black and white or even with a black and white image in mind.
But… some colour images convert really well to black and white. Occasionally I’ll try a conversion from a colour image that I think might work well. Here are a few of those images. I hope they’re they’re minimalist enough. I’ve tried to use pics here that I haven’t used in previous challenges.

Steve, your photos are always great as they are now. I think the theme is best captured are the opening shot with the statue, that is great – my favorite, I really like it. The scooter with the composition highlighted with the three thirds rule appeals to me.
Thank you Ritva. I’d agree with you re the minimisation in the first image. You set a great challenge theme 🙂
Wonderful collection! That Nun does not look happy!
Thanks Beth. I shot that with a 70-200 zoom. I can’t remember if she walked past me or not after I shot the pic. I certainly don’t remember getting any grief. Italy was great for people pics. Everyone i asked for a pic, including a policeman said yes when I asked. Perhaps that’s where i got the confidence to snap the nun 🙂
Beautiful collection Stephen! I agree with Beth, was going to comment the same about the Nun 😉 She does not look very happy!
Thank you Pamela. I’ve replied to Beth re taking the image of that nun but I did use a lens you might have. A Canon 70-200 f2.8 L mk II. What a lens that is. I paired it with a Canon 5D and it was my working zoom on weddings for three years. I sold it to buy my Fuji camera when I finished the weddings and wanted lighter gear 🙂
As usual, a wonderful eye for detail Steve. I loved them all but having spent 16 years in Catholic school I absolutely loved your image of the good s’ter!!
Thank you Tina. We’d seen a lot of nuns, walking around the towns whilst we were there. I have a couple more but that image was probably the best, I cut her feet off though 😦
A wonderful collection, Steve, and my favorite is that photo of the nun. The car and the scooter, though, are great subjects for a conversion as well.
Thank you John. I ask my wife to vet the pics for posting as I view them more technically to my own detriment sometimes. The car was her favourite shot 🙂
Excellent monochrome images, Steve.
Thank you Egidio 🙂
All wonderful! I especially enjoyed the nun and street dancer. 👍🏽
Thank you 🙂
These are great Steve, the nun really made me laugh.
Thank you Leanne 🙂
I love your candid shots, a very different approach to the challenge and I would not mess with that nun 🙂
Thank you Sofia 🙂
Great selections, Steve. That grumpy nun!! LOVE.
Thank you Kirsten 🙂
