Baking – Dubai Chocolate

First try. Linda made this Dubai Chocolate bar with Callebaut Belgian Chocolate.

Dubai chocolate has been all the rage over here this year. The story of its origin is told here on Wikipedia – Dubai Chocolate. It’s really expensive to buy in the UK. Chocolate prices are high anyway but a 145g bar of this retails for £9.99 in our supermarkets. Around $14. I wouldn’t be sharing a bar that size with anyone!

The Easter Lily Cactus

Echinopsis Subdenudata, commonly known as the Easter Lily or Domino Cactus.

We’ve had a tiny round cactus plant at home for about five years or so now. I think it probably came home with us as one of a pack of tiny cacti from Ikea. I’ve never really bothered with it and it normally sits, out of the way, on a book shelf, at the back of the kitchen. It’s in a really good warm, light position.

Gromit Unleashed 3 – Part 2

The Mr Darcy Sculpture at the Clifton Observatory. Mr Darcy was painted by Rhiannon Southwell and was inspired by Jane Austins ‘Pride and Prejudice’.

We went back in to Bristol yesterday to meet up with my daughter, Zoe, and three of our grandchildren, Ewan, Barney and Toby, with the intention of visiting a few more Gromit Unleashed 3 Sculptures. We decided to go in to the Clifton area of the city and pick off the five figurines located there.

Walking – Goodrich Castle and the River Wye, Wales

Goodrich Castle.

Last weekend we paddled down the river Wye, Monmouthshire, Wales in a canoe (I’ve blogged that here). Whilst we were on the water we saw people walking along the river bank, enjoying the stunning scenery in and around the Wye Valley. We both thought a walk in that area might be a nice thing to do. So, once we were back I started to research walks in the Wye Valley and using the Outdoor Active App I found the walk that we completed today.

Travel – Richmond Park, London

A view across to central London from Richmond Park

We were invited to visit and stay with my in-laws who live in Bournemouth, Dorset over the Easter weekend so last Thursday we drove down from Bristol to join them on the south coast. We left the planning for the weekend to David and Donna, in fact the only thing we had to do was to provide a suitable dessert for our meal on that first night!

Walking – Stanton, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, UK

The road into Stanton and our walk start point.

We picked off another walk from our OS Pathfinder Book this week, taking on a 9.5 mile circular route, starting in the ‘Chocolate Box’ village of Stanton. I was expecting Stanton to be busy with Cotswolds Tik-Tok tourists but that wasn’t the case. Another surprise was a well kept, empty, free car park in the village, provided by the local Parish Council. That’s a much appreciated rarity these days.

Lens-Artists Challenge for #342 – It’s a wild life

An Atlantic Puffin. This was taken on Skomer Island. Wales, UK. I went there specifically to take pictures of puffins and it didn’t disappoint. The island is a protected haven for seabirds and only 200 people per day are allowed to visit.

This week Egidio challenges to It’s a wild life. I’m out of my comfort zone here as I don’t photograph much wildlife or many landscapes. I’ve search the archives and come up with a few wild bird shots and a couple of wild flowers.

Walking – Winchcombe, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, UK

The main High Street in Winchcombe. We stopped in the Old Bakery, on the right, for a coffee and cake when we got back after the walk.

We decided to fit another walk in this week. We wanted something a bit longer than Mondays Cheddar Gorge ramble so we decided to drive in to the Cotswolds. The area is not too far away from us, about 50 miles. I had a look through our OS Cotswolds Pathfinder Book and chose a nine mile circular walk starting at Winchcombe. The route loops around a ridge to the east of Winchcombe, taking in Hailes Abbey and Sudeley Castle. I found the same route in my Outdoor Active App with no problems and used that to guide us.
