I do enjoy street photography. Just going out for a walk with my camera is my happy photography place. I wasn’t sure where to take this when I initially saw the challenge. I explained to my wife what it was all about and she said to me “Why are you struggling with this? You’re always taking pictures of things that make other people watching you wonder what the hell you’re doing”.
That’s true enough. I’ve grown a thickish skin to that these days but I do know people sometimes watch me thinking ‘why is he photographing that?’
I took this purely because of this ladies hat. I’m one of those people who see faces in everyday objects and I saw one on this hat. I have a whole collection of faces pics somewhere but I couldn’t find them for the challenge.
The trouble is my pic filing system doesn’t have a – ‘What the hell is he photographing that for’ – section. I tend to keep all my stock in yearly files but everything else just stays uncatalogued so finding some of these shots, taken over the last eighteen years, is impossible. I now keep a blog folder for my random, non stock images so things will improve.
I’m going to follow Ritva’s example and stop writing at this point. I’ll explain the images I’m including in their picture captions. I hope you enjoy them 🙂
I’m always grabbing pics of old garage doors or other interesting textures like these. I print them, using matt paper, on my A3 printer and use them as backdrops or false table tops for some of my food photography. I like an entertaining sign. This made us smile. Not quite on the street but I did take this on a beach walk. It was one random rock left to the side of the steps down to the beach.Charity shop donations left outside of a charity shop despite the large notice written of the shops door glass. They were open at the time and these appeared during the ten minutes we were in the shop.I’ve lost count of how many ‘Love Locks’ I’ve photographed. I’m always drawn to them. Here’s another one taken a few weeks ago. That black door was also shot for one of my backdrop images. All these bears are thinking ‘Why the hell is he photographing us?’Some random dead weeds – Don’t ask, I’ve no idea why I took this but oddly, I really like it.I stumbled across this scene in May. It was at the back of a beach in Rhodes and, environmental issues aside, we laughed joking that it must have been some drinking session! You’ll be pleased to know we were back there last week and it had all been cleared away.
Thank you to Ritva for hosting this weeks challenge. If you’d like to know more about the Lens-Artists Challenge, please click here.

These are wonderful Steve, each one of them spoke to me so I guess oddballs attract! Must admit I didn’t see the face on the hat until I read about it.
Excellent collection, Steve. Despite not being able to actually see the scooter, the Vespa name is so recognizable. That was my favorite shot in your beautiful gallery.
Thank you Egidio, I do have pictures of that scooter. Its a proper workman’s scooter normally packed up with decorators rollers and a large plastic tub on the footplate 🙂
I had to also lol at your comment of wondering what people might be thinking, totally been there done that! We do it for the shot, and its always worth it!!! ✨️
Ha ha, its even funnier when the look at Lin, my wife, and she just smiles and rolls her eyes at them 🙂
LOL
Great series, Steve! I especially love the peeling paint. I’m always drawn to that, myself. Cheers!
Thank you Kirsten. I hope you’re enjoying the river cruise. More important, I hope you’ve sourced some Lemon Fanta! I went through a six pack of it last week 🙂

Thank you Tina, not odd at all – in my world 🙂

A beautiful variety with a bounty of uplifting messages.
Thank you Yanaj 🙂
Great gallery. Love the love lock shot. And I too see the face in the hat.
Thank you Marie, faces everywhere for me. Our speckled kitchen worktop is full of them 🙂
Great pictures for this theme… hahaha I LOL at the “Keep your kitty pretty” !
Thank you Pamela, glad you liked the sign, it made me laugh 🙂

You aren’t going to believe this: NO Fanta Lemon in all of Eastern Europe. Sadness!! 😂
I am sad for you but you made me laugh 🙂
I knew you would find some great images Steve and you have, I love the signs, they are brilliant.
Thank you Leanne. I was really impressed with your post 🙂
Excellent post, Steve. I love the textures and the Vespa just reminded me of Disney’s Luca, one of our favourite films here 🙂
Thank you Sofia. I don’t know that film, I’ll check it out 🙂
It’s great (at least we think it is :D)
We love this picture you took in Rhodes.
Keep well & happy
The Fab Four of Cley
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you 🙂
The Vespa is great. Looks like the ocean.
Thank you Rebecca. They call good old rust ‘patina’ over here these days as if it was a requested finish 🙂
Even better, it is a requested finish and they invented it! 😉
A great selection of images! The Vespa has seen better days…
Love your selection – especially the vespa and the weed. Glad you went back and found every can gone – and told us too!
Thank you Ann. Yes the cans had gone although it’s noticeable over there that the waste collection gets worse as you leave the tourist areas
