Lens-Artists Challenge #361- Looking Back to #20: Doors

Sofia hosts this weeks ‘looking back’ challenge and invites us to post pictures of doors and doorways. Here original Lens-Artist Challenge post can be found here. I’m going to repost a few images here that I’ve used in older door challenge posts. There’s a few new images but apologies if some of you have seen these before.

This is quite a nondescript door that, on its own, doesn’t warrant a second look but lots of famous musicians have walked through this stage entrance.

This second image gives the game away. It’s the famous Stone Pony music venue in Asbury Park, New Jersey, USA. The stage door is on the right hand side of the building, just up from the ‘No Entry’ sign.

The venue, which opened in 1974, is always associated with Bruce Springsteen, who has appeared here and been a long time supporter of the Pony. However, checking out the venues website, I was really surprised at some of the other big name acts that have appeared here over the years. You can find more on that here: Stone Pony History Page.

Moving on I’m always on the look out for something amusing and I’ve seen a few notes pinned to peoples doors that have made me chuckle. Here’s a couple I particularly like.

I never really looked out for doors to photograph until I became involved with blogging on WordPress. If I took a picture of a door there would normally be another reason it ended up in my camera. Like the image below. Our friend Esther in a side door of St Audrie’s Park, West Quantoxhead, Somerset, UK where she was married.

I’ll finish with a few contrasting doorways from Marrakech. First a traditional Moorish doorway. Second, the door to Yves St Laurent house from Le Jardin Marjorelle. Finally the impressive doorway and entrance to Marrakech train station.

Thank you to Sofia for hosting this weeks challenge. I’m looking forward to browsing through everyone else’s challenge blogs – I love a good door pic.

  1. Terrific post Steve! Coming from NJ, I’ve done the Stone Pony once or twice 😉 although I have no recollection of who I saw and it was definitely NOT Springsteen. (I did see Elton John in a Phila music house with a max of about 30 people tho). Anyway….loved your response. All are terrific but the final 3 are my favorites.

    • Thank you Tina. I hope your Elton John experience was better than mine. I’m a fan and finally got to see him on an Arena tour in the UK. At was at the height of his drug abuse years and he was dreadful 🙁

      • Oh dear, what a bummer!! Yes he was in his Bernie Taupin years then and was so much more wonderful than he became after their break-up.
