Our first wedding of 2013 was in January of that year. The Bride, Nicola, had been a bridesmaid at a wedding I photographed in 2012 and booked me, for her wedding, following that ceremony.

The wedding was held at The Thythe Barn, Priston Mill, Bath, UK. We’d had quite heavy snow a few days before the Wedding day but a thaw had set in and made the roads drivable on the day. It was still quite chilly though.

The actual wedding day went pretty much to plan although there was drama on the day before the wedding. Nicola’s three tiered wedding cake had been delivered to the venue but, after being set up, the second cake tier collapsed into the bottom tier. Nicola’s initial reaction to that was despair, but she turned it around into a fun talking point on the wedding day. The cake was still edible so she displayed it with a picture of what it should have looked like as per the image below.

Being January we lost light early in the afternoon but the barn had a large room available that we could use for some group shots after the wedding breakfast. I’d pre planned this on the venue visit earlier in the week, so we set up our studio lights and were ready to go once the guests had finished eating. It just goes to show the value of the pre venue visit. All in all a lovely day.
