Lens-Artists Challenge #356 – Quiet Hours

SH is the challenge host this week. He has chosen the theme – ‘Quiet Hours’ – and how we can show these hours in pictures. When I first read SH’s original challenge post I immediately thought dawn, dusk night time etc. However, I’ve since come around to looking at this in a different way, working out how I use quiet hours to benefit me, especially as a stock photographer.

Travel – Pontneddfechan, Wales, UK

Enjoying the evening sun outside our Air BnB, former miners cottage. The cottage name, Golwg Y Ddinas, written in Welsh, translates to ‘The view of the city’! We were a long way from any of those.

Two weeks ago, with warm weather forecast across the country, we thought it might be nice to take the opportunity to find a last minute get away somewhere here in the UK. Long story short the former Miners cottage in mid Wales, that we stayed in last year, had a last minute cancellation and was being offered for a weeks rental with a good discount. So, on Sunday evening I booked the cottage and by 2.00pm the next day we were back in it.

Lens Artist Challenge #354: Reflections

Anne has set this weeks challenge and asks us to post images with reflections. Here’s a link to Annes original post. I’m a little short on reflection images other than bridal preparation shots (I have lots of those). I have been able to find a few though so here they are.

Lens-Artists Challenge #352 – Mellow

Sofia has set this weeks Lens-Artist challenge and asks us to post images following a theme of mellow, calm and relaxing. Sofia’s original challenge post can be found here.

These Munkeh’s look pretty chilled relaxing on my garden fence. They used to give these guys away with PG Tips tea bags in the UK.

This weeks theme really is a challenge for my portfolio as conceptual photography isn’t something I’ve concentrated on in the past. The stock agency I sell with, Alamy, isn’t really that sort of place. A quick search through the Alamy database, using the word mellow, just brings back pages of images featuring branded items featuring the word mellow.

Lens-Artists Challenge #351 – Books

Ritva has set this weeks challenge and has asked for images of any kind of books that inspire a love for reading. Ritva’s challenge post is here.

We’re on holiday in Rhodes, Greece this week so I don’t have access to my images, except for a few stored on my iPad. The best I could do, at short notice, was to pop in to a local Greek Orthodox Church, near our hotel, this morning and grab this. It certainly wouldn’t make for light reading but it is a book! Hopefully I can do better next week.

Baking – Bertha and Cookies!!

It’s been a while since I posted a baking blog so here are some images of a cake I bought and had delivered last week. It’s called a Bertha and it’s a huge slice of layered chocolate sponge and dark chocolate ganache. Berthas are made by a bakery in Leeds, UK, called Get Baked and they have become a huge social media hit. I’ve debated over ordering a slice for some time and all I can say now, having sampled one, is that Bertha is fantastic and didn’t disappoint.
