Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #376 – Wings

Holidays here we come!

Beth has set this weeks Lens-Artist Challenge with the theme ‘wings’. Beths original post can be viewed here. A few wing pics from me, starting with planes.

Coming in to land. Wing flaps set to bring the plane down rather than take it up.
A flying black ant with her temporary wings.
A Cigale in the South of France. It’s incredible the noise these things can generate. If there’s one in a tree near you you’ll know about it!
Hover fly

A few birds with specialist wings adapted for catching prey.

A Atlantic Puffin drying its dual purpose wings. They’re awkward flyers but those wings are superb under the water
A brown Booby soaring with that large wingspan. They tuck back for plunging down in to the sea
A Barn Owl with its super soft, quiet wings, used here to catch a Field Vole

Thank you to beth for hosting this weeks challenge. For information on how to join the Len-Artists challenge please click here.

  1. As an aviator, I enjoyed your priority of featuring humanity’s conquering of flight over species that were designed to fly. I ascribe to the notion that If man were meant to fly, our wallets would be a lot heavier. >grin<

  2. Well Steve, it’s one thing to capture a beautiful barn owl but quite another to actually catch it with prey in talons!! Beautiful work as always – some of your planes are simply astounding!

    • Thank you Tina. That Barn Owl would regularly hunt in a field local to us. They’ll hunt in the day if they have young to feed. Unfortunately they’ve left the area now 😦
