This week Sofia challenges us to be Bold. Her original challenge post is here. I’ve chosen to use a few pictures based on bold colours, but even bolder design.

These ‘Where’s Wally’ planes are operated by German air carrier Condor. Some of their planes are painted in these simple but striking candy-coloured bold stripes, inspired by “parasols, bath towels and beach chairs.”
The airline says – ‘There are five colour options: The blue stripes represent the sea, the yellow stripes recall sunshine, red represents “passion”, green represents “island” and a beige-gold stripe should make travellers think of a sandy beach.’

We saw the planes whilst we were on holiday in Rhodes, Greece. Our hotel was on the flight path in to the local airport. Condor were flying in to Rhodes two days a week during the time we were there, so the planes were few and far between. I managed to photograph four of the five colours. The yellow striped plane eluded me. We’re going back in May so hopefully I might complete the set whilst we’re there then.

I think the planes are great. What a brilliant idea. They certainly stood out from the other aircraft that were flying over our hotel all week. There’s a bit more information about the colourful livery’s in this CNN news article here.
Thank you to Sofia for setting and hosting this weeks challenge. If you want to know more about the Lens-Artists, please click here.

Super fun photos, Steve. How long did it take you to “collect” the entire set? I’m glad the airline did not pick orange stripes. 🙂
Thank you Egidio. I took three of them on our trip there last May. I took the blue striped plane the year before 🙂
Thanks for the answer. It’s a cool and original design for an airline.
I LOVED the planes Steve – they’re so fun! Great idea for the challenge.
Thank you Tina. These challenges do get you thinking 🙂
Now that is something completely different! Love your first one’s composition, fantastic photo 🙂
Thank you Sofia 🙂
Love it. Have never seen a plane painted like that before!
Thank you 🙂
I’ve never seen that livery before, Steve! And I thought I knew aviation. You’ve taught me something!
There not a big airline John. They’re the remnants of a large travel company that went bust over here.
Those planes look amazing Steve, good choice for the challenge.
Thank you Leanne 🙂
Oh what fun! Bold indeed.
Bold and cool captures
Sooo cool! I have never seen those ones before – thank you for a great take on!
